"definitely do not believe in a Deity; not so sure about the Devil"
Joran Van der Sloot
EVIL
???
HIS VICTIMS
????
I'm willing to bet you, before getting this far, all republicans and most democrats that knew I was gay, have already thought, and will even share this opinion with anyone else..... but me,
"that faggot just want to get into Joran's pants!"
Sadly, I'm sure there were many who didn't bother reading any further as well.
Shame, the only thing "we are agreed"......we share the same taste.
No denying....
Joran IS cute!
I can see that happening.
Not opposed to the idea of
"one night stands"
or even
"meaningful overnight relationships"
But DUDE.....This guy obviously likes it ROUGH!
I ain't that STUPID!
****
Having gotten that out of the way,
enough about me.
This entry isn't even about Jordan...or the two girls.
It's about you!
(All THREE of THEM)
And nobody else but you!
(BEING VICTIMS)
of YOUR CRIME!
(I like to remind everyone, "you" is plural for "you". Thought I better tell some of y'all.)
TRAGIC VISION
of
HUMANKIND
"Our brains evolved to suit a world much simpler than the one we now face."
“Believes in the existence of inherent limitations and flaws in the way we think and act and requires an acknowledgement of this fact as a basis for any individual and collective action.”
Perceptual biases that distort our thinking:
DIFFUSION
-our tendency to see data that confirm our prejudices more vividly than data that contradict them;
-our tendency to overvalue recent events when anticipating future possibilities;
-our tendency to spin concurring facts into a single causal narrative;
-our tendency to applaud our own supposed skill in circumstances when we’ve actually benefited from dumb luck.
OF
RESPONSIBILITY
(probably the most elusive perpetrator of crime known to mankind)
I read profiles. I read between the lines. I hang on to every word. I observe how people interact with each other. I don't believe everything I hear (1st and/or 3rd person). I pay attention to contexts. I read body language. (etc, etc, etc)
But most important of all, I have a realist's sense of my
self worth/weaknesses/vulnerabilities!
Even with all that, life is still just plain outright....LUCK!
"AIN'T MY (OUR) PROBLEM,"
has no place in any conversation or debate.
I really believe, after spending 5 minutes with Joran Van der Sloot, could of screamed,
"S.A.R.S! S.A.R.S!"
(SHE AIN'T RIGHT SISTER!)
Life is all about seeking pleasure, avoiding pain, living up to the expectations set by others as well as our own, weighting the pro and cons of each and every move we make.
There's no way around it.....we have got to take risks.
We are going to have people who crack under the pressure.
We are going to have victims.
Two victims bad enough.....but THREE?
Just downright pathetic! To disagree with the math even more pathetic when you consider, blame for the last victim, fall squarely on society at large; everyone looking after their own interest. We've all heard the principle behind "six degrees of separation".....same goes backwards from the scene of a crime. So much for the simple math.
Moving on to
Calculus
The signs were there before the first murder; and it's not just his parents who should accept responsibility for their contribution to the crime, but the girl's parents as well.
There's blame enough to go around for all of us.
I'm not saying Joran should be set free. I'm not even against the death penalty. We have a right not to ignore the threat of someone with a dangerous mind. But to apply 'criminal' and/or 'victim' to names, punishes someone but not everyone responsible for a crime; only gives the false impression to most that blame for a crime does not apply.
We have this way of seeing fines and jail time as punishment, a deterrent; death penalties as justice, bringing closure; believing a price should be paid to us for the pain we suffered, that we too were a victim of a crime instead of partly to blame; that a criminal can be turn out onto the street,
expected to pick up his life again where he left off, without addressing the underlying problems that led to the crime in the first place.
Helps no one....prevents not a single crime!
Just makes it worse.
Creating even more victims.
Joran may have committed the crime, but society is the one who created the criminal; however way you choose to do the math.
****
Conservatives refuse to admit to this.
They don't want to part with any their good fortune; just the minimum taxes needed to pay someone else to do all their dirty work, to die fighting their wars.
Rather pay taxes to build jails instead of using that money to keep people out of jail.
Anything that helps keep democrats (most likely).... from living longer....from getting a fair education......from escaping poverty....from being victims.....in other words.....from voting.
Would be a threat to their control on power if they did.
***
We all begin as innocent children who go on to have unique experiences that shape who we are as adults. Some of us learn quickly and easily in nurturing environments how to get it "right." Others are not so lucky. Some suffer sustained physical and emotional abuse and thus fail to develop skills to function normally, which affects all their relationships. If they survive, they often repeat the only behavior they have known. We judge them worthless and feel they "deserve" to die if they commit murder. The fact is, at a very deep level, they have already died.
The most important human feeling, self worth, has already suffered a very slow and painful death from abuse they did not deserve. We should ask ourselves how we feel about repeating the disregard for human worth aimed at people who have lived this message for much of their lives.
The hypocrite's crime is that he bears false witness against himself. What makes it so plausible to assume that hypocrisy is the vice of vices is that integrity can indeed exist under the cover of all other vices except this one. Only crime and the criminal, it is true, confront us with the perplexity of radical evil; but only the hypocrite is really rotten to the core. ~Hannah Arendt, On Revolution, 1963
