G.O.P. Sees Mosque Near Ground Zero as Campaign Issue - NYTimes.com: "“Ground zero is hallowed ground to Americans,” Elliott Maynard, a Republican trying to unseat Representative Nick J. Rahall II, a Democrat, in West Virginia’s Third District, said in a typical statement. “Do you think the Muslims would allow a Jewish temple or Christian church to be built in Mecca?”"
Join the Debate: Should Freedom of Religion Trump Sept. 11 Sensitivities? - iVillage: "“Let them build their mosque, or community center, or whatever they are calling it,” echoes denise363636. “This is America -- and to deny someone their freedom of religion would be wrong, and would show the terrorists that they are chipping away at our way of life.”"
Recalling from memory. The conclusion of one study showed that people who went to church, overall, were happier and healthier than those who did not. But the researcher concluded that the benefits should not be seen as the influence of religion itself but as the results of community involvement; socializing, connecting with people.
I agree with the second statement. If they can go about building this mosque legally, as well as any other religion group who wanted to expand, then they should be allowed to do so. What is allowed in Mecca should be irrelevant; a reaction befitting that of a child misbehaving.
Either we are a country with values we can call truly American; or we are just another country with hatred filled, paranoid, self serving citizens who will end up destroying their own country from within.
Might as well expel all Muslims from America. And while we're at it, also the blacks, Jews, homosexuals, Mexicans (even if citizens), etc., etc., etc.; stopping only when no one left to hate, no one not trusted, no one seen as a possible threat.
Hate the thought what life would be like; the day to day struggles living with a bunch of unhappy, unhealthy bickering Americans.
BARREL OF MONKEYS: "GENESIS" in Reverse
I consider myself a Democrat. Been called a Socialist. Definitely a bleeding heart liberal.
As a child from a traditional southern family, playing Barrel of Monkeys on the floor, church every Sunday, doing well in public school, learning a trade; in every sense privileged .........
Comfortable in middle age, an avid news reader, on learning the tragic story of a full grown chimpanzee destroying the face of a woman who offered a toy, only trying to help it's owner coax her surrogate child back into his cage......
Today being confrontational, ribald, offensive, restless, rebellious.......
How did I get here from there?
