BARREL OF MONKEYS: "GENESIS" in Reverse

I consider myself a Democrat. Been called a Socialist. Definitely a bleeding heart liberal.

As a child from a traditional southern family, playing Barrel of Monkeys on the floor, church every Sunday, doing well in public school, learning a trade; in every sense privileged .........

Comfortable in middle age, an avid news reader, on learning the tragic story of a full grown chimpanzee destroying the face of a woman who offered a toy, only trying to help it's owner coax her surrogate child back into his cage......

Today being confrontational, ribald, offensive, restless, rebellious.......

How did I get here from there?

Senators introduce law to ban 'crush' videos of animal cruelty - CNN

Three U.S. senators introduced legislation Monday to specifically ban so-called 'crush videos' -- depictions of small animals being tortured to death by humans.

The legislation came in response to a Supreme Court ruling this year striking down a broader congressional law dealing with animal cruelty.

If that 1999 law had been upheld, it would have been only the second time the Supreme Court had identified a form of speech undeserving of protection by the First Amendment. The justices in 1982 banned the distribution of child pornography.

The videos mostly depict women -- with their faces unseen -- stomping helpless animals such as rabbits to death with spiked-heel shoes or with their bare feet. The videos apparently satisfy a sexual fetish for those who produce and watch them, said animal rights activists who supported the new bill.

The justices by an 8-1 margin struck down a broader 1999 federal law designed to stop the sale and marketing of videos showing dogfights and other acts of animal cruelty, saying it was an unconstitutional violation of free speech. That specific case dealt with a Virginia man who sold videos of dogs fighting each other at an overseas location.

When it came to dog-fighting videos, 'The First Amendment itself reflects a judgment by the American people that the benefits of its restrictions on the government outweigh its costs,' said Chief Justice John Roberts. He concluded Congress had not sufficiently shown 'depictions' of dogfighting were enough to justify a special category of exclusion from free speech protection.

But in dissent, Justice Samuel Alito focused his attention on crush videos. "The animals used in crush videos are living creatures that experience excruciating pain. Our society has long banned such cruelty," he said. The courts, he said, have "erred in second-guessing the legislative judgment about the importance of preventing cruelty to animals."

Alito at the time predicted more crush videos would soon flood the underground market, because the ruling has "the practical effect of legalizing the sale of such videos."

WALKING UP THE DRIVEWAY SCANNING THE ROAD.

RELIEVED UPON FINDING NOTHING  SEEMING UNUSUAL.

As I cross the street approaching what looked like a small white towel beside my neighbors driveway,  really wasn't thinking anything.
Way too small. Way too flat.

Not sure how to describe what happened next.

Beneath the towel.....

Curled up as if having found a cool place to rest.
Just as warm to the palm of my hand as when I woke finding him stretched  beside me as usual.
Patiently waiting with big yellow eyes for beginning of yet another day.

Bringing him home, craddled in my arms.
Feeling ashamed, couldn't stop thinking.

Why So Many People Can't Make Decisions - WSJ.com

Why So Many People Can't Make Decisions - WSJ.com: "Seeing the world as black and white, in which choices seem clear, or shades of gray can affect people's path in life, from jobs and relationships to which political candidate they vote for, researchers say. People who often have conflicting feelings about situations—the shades-of-gray thinkers—have more of what psychologists call ambivalence, while those who tend toward unequivocal views have less ambivalence."

DOES THIS GUY HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?

When Words Can Kill: 'That's So Gay' - ABC News

"'When you are in elementary school, one of the first things you learn is the feeling of hurt when you are called 'gay' or 'fag,'' said Presgraves. 'It doesn't matter if you are gay or straight. The term 'gay' has become synonymous with 'uncool.'

'The expression 'That's so gay' is one of the most heard in school, and students recognize it as derogatory,' he said."

"It's absolutely tragic," Haas said of Carl's suicide. "The really disturbing thing is the degree to which 'gay,' 'lesbian' and all pejorative terms are a cover for the bullying itself. The meaning of it is unclear."

According to a 2001 study published in the American Journal of Public Health, "The majority of the evidence is in favor of common causes for suicide that affect all youth, but which LGB youth are more likely than their heterosexual peers to experience."

In that report, by the GLSEN and Harris Interactive, students said teachers rarely interfered in cases of gay-related bullying, either because they are embarrassed or don't know what to do.

"The truly unfortunate thing is because of the societal atmosphere surrounding gay and lesbian life in the U.S., administrators are reluctant to act or fail to act,"

Atheists, agnostics most knowledgeable about religion, survey says - latimes.com

So why would an atheist know more about religion than a Christian?

American atheists and agnostics tend to be people who grew up in a
religious tradition and consciously gave it up, often after a great deal of
reflection and study, said Alan Cooperman, associate director for research at
the Pew Forum.

"These are people who thought a lot about religion," he
said. "They're not indifferent. They care about it."

Atheists and
agnostics also tend to be relatively well educated, and the survey found, not
surprisingly, that the most knowledgeable people were also the best educated.
However, it said that atheists and agnostics also outperformed believers who had
a similar level of education.

Why black church culture rejects homosexuality - CNN.com

Why black church culture rejects homosexuality - CNN.com: "It's no secret that a large majority of African-American Christians are theologically conservative. The Pew Research Center's national study of American religion lists African-Americans among the most religiously committed American ethnic groups. They are more likely than the general population to interpret the Bible literally and believe in God with absolute certainty. Considering the theologically conservative disposition of black churches at large, it makes sense that many black Christians take the Apostle Paul at his word when Paul portrays homosexuality as an act of depravity and perversion in his letter to the Romans."

Romans 1:26-32 (King James Version)

26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30Backbiters, haters of God, spiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

As long as African-American Christians adhere to biblical mandates as authoritative prescriptions from God, they won't be easily dissuaded from rejecting same-sex lifestyles as viable alternatives to heterosexual norms.

What this means for Long is that the walls of his spiritual empire will ostensibly crumble if he is unable to launch an aggressive and cogent defense against these allegations. If, indeed, as F. Scott Fitzgerald maintained, there really are no second acts in American lives, then how much narrower the space for the redemptive comeback of an evangelical spiritual leader who is abruptly tainted by the unyielding taboo of homosexual conduct?

If there was one thing learned from disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard, it is that a murderer has a better chance of redemption and launching a second spiritual act of leadership than an evangelical pastor outed for same-sex erotic urges. In the particular case of black Christian leaders, exiting the closet is absurdly akin to entering an inescapable dungeon.

No two veterinary hospitals operate the same.  The working environment of veterinary hospitals are as varied and extreme  as  political affiliation(s) of  veterinarian(s) owning/managing each hospital; if even  veterinarian(s).

Working environments, at multi Doctor hospitals themselves, can vary from day to day; depended on  much larger staffs  keeping a much larger client base happy.  Whether they know which one or not, even staff and clients have political affiliations; an opinion all that's needed.

Show of respect (disrespect) impossible without having an opinion first; obedience (disobedience)  not necessarily  favorable (justified) opinions.

And that's before getting into one's ......MOOD .....for the day.

Extremely malleable pride as well

Tea Partyers Are More Mainstream Than Obama

For example, any politician who supports extending the Bush tax cuts, whether just to the middle class or to every American, should propose spending cuts to match. Democrats criticize Republicans for not paying for the “tax cut for billionaires,” as the president is fond of calling it, and want to know how they’d pay for it. Yet there’s a yawning silence when it comes to Democrats explaining how the middle class tax cut would be paid for. Keeping the tax cuts is a good idea, and so is paying for them. That’s a no-brainer to most Americans, but apparently not to politicians.

Believe that puts us right back where we started;  who is going  to pay the price......the richer half or the poorer half?

Stuff revolutions (crimes) made of!

Also want to point out,
"mainstrean",
implies nothing about being on the correct side of the debate.

For example,
you would have to say the same:

Clinton Says Democrats Must Stop 'Mealy Mouthing' in Campaign - BusinessWeek

"Clinton said the primary motivation behind some of the attacks on President Barack Obama, the country's first black president, isn't racial; it is that opponents want to make him 'the other.' 'Are they racist? No,' Clinton said. 'They want to turn him into a space alien. It helps that his skin color is different. But their motivation is what it always is: power and money.'"

Are all of them racist? No. Will agree with Clinton's answer only to a point most are Republicans doing what Republicans have always done best; compromising only when forced and the least needed to maintain or regain control.

Raised within a white southern christian family tending to vocalize more Republican than devout Christian, know for a fact, most Republicans have more racism in them than care to admit.  Just a tiny amount enough to be quicker on the draw with impatience, frustration, bitterness, anger, or just in need of a target not family.

Colbert storms Capitol Hill for migrant workers - CNN.com

"Colbert appeared before Congress the day after "The Colbert Report" showed video of him packing corn and picking beans on a farm as part of a challenge from a pro-immigrant-labor group.

"I'll admit I started my work day with preconceived notions of migrant labor," Colbert said. "But after working with these men and women ... side by side in the unforgiving sun I have to say -- and I do mean this sincerely -- please don't make me do this again. It is really, really hard."

The brief experience, he said, "gave me some small understanding why so few Americans are clamoring to begin an exciting career as seasonal migrant field workers."

Colbert appeared alongside, among others, United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez, whose group over the summer launched "Take Our Jobs," a campaign that challenged U.S. citizens to replace immigrants in farm work.

The group, which says only seven citizens or legal residents have taken it up on the offer, argues that immigrant workers aren't taking citizens' jobs, and is pushing for a bill that would give undocumented farm workers currently in the United States the right to earn legal status."

"Republicans on the subcommittee were not impressed or swayed by Colbert's appearance.

'Maybe we should be spending less time watching Comedy Central and more time considering all the real jobs that are out there -- ones that require real hard labor and ones that don't involve sitting behind a desk,' said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.
'If we did we'd realize that every day ... Americans perform the dirtiest, most difficult, most dangerous (jobs) that can be thrown at them.'
Many of these workers, King said, 'would prefer the aroma of fresh dirt to that of the sewage of American elitists who disparage them even as they flush.'"

Scary....... how so many REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS..... educated , highly successful as well as wealthy, businessmen/professionals in general..... say the things they say........and believe themselves...... "non elitists"

Scary.......how many "AVERAGE UNIFORMED AMERICAN VOTERS"..... fault not of their own making for many/ preference for many content to be left alone.........actually believe..... these REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS...... have their best interest in mind.

Just about all politicians in Washington are wealthy.  Some from humble backgrounds,  entering politics after years of hard work once amassing their fortune  .  Born into money, some having hardly worked at all their whole lives; even in need of job as politician.

So what is it...... the difference.... between wealthy politicians....... with DEMOCRATS  being viewed...... "ELITISTS"....... compared to and even by the REPUBLICAN politicians themselves?

From a tax perspective, wealhty DEMOCRATS  benefits or lose just as much as wealthy REPUBLICANS regardless of what taxation "scheme" used.

As progressive taxation knows not whether money from minorities working for a racists....

As progressive taxation knows not whether  charitable donations from old money old or new......

As progressive taxation knows not whether salary of a chauvanistic homosexual male employee or liberated conservative female executive.....

As progressive taxation  knows not whether from money for good clean hard labor or quick, easy money made doing someone's dirty work....

As progressive taxation knows not whether from wallstreet bonus  or spent for sex and drug....

As REPUBLICAN PARTY has the most to gain from voting against progressive taxation, I'm left with only THREE posssible conclusions.....

IGNORANCE
DELUSIONAL
GREED

As I debate politics with REPUBLICANS, LIBERTARIAN, INDEPENENTS, DEMOCRATS
I'm left with only one conclusion........

SELFISHNESS

John King USA: Blog Archive - Secretary Gates: 'Conflict sells' « - CNN.com Blogs: "Articles about Woodward's new book, 'Obama's Wars,' say it will reveal the administration was deeply divided over U.S. strategy in Afghanistan.

Today, Gates told reporters there are three points he wants to make:

'The first is: Conflict sells.'

Gates continued, 'The second: The relationship among senior officials in this administration is as harmonious as any I've experienced…in my time in government.'

His third point: 'I believe this very strongly: Presidents are always well served when there is a vigorous and spirited debate over important issues.'"

The Buzz Log - A Good Day to Be a Wombat - Yahoo! Buzz: "Australian news outlets have gone wild about the story of an American man who left $8 million to the 'non profit organisation specialising in large scale rescue and rehabilitation of the Southern Hairy Nosed Wombat.' The donation will come in $1-million-per-year increments, starting next year. His family has asked, perhaps not too surprisingly, for anonymity.
As Forbes.com writes, the man visited the organization several years ago and went on a tour of the surrounding areas, where he was shown wild wombats that had been injured, starved, or diseased. A rep for the group says the man was clearly moved by what he saw, and he never forgot the experience. Years later, a little-known organization is $8 million richer."

JESUS COMPLEX: Is Jesus God?

JESUS COMPLEX: Is Jesus God?: "Many, like Gandhi, have tried to separate Jesus’ teaching on ethics from his claims about himself, believing that he was simply a great man who taught lofty moral principles. This was the approach of one of America’s Founding Fathers, President Thomas Jefferson, who cut and pasted a copy of the New Testament, removing sections he thought referred to Jesus’ deity, while leaving in other passages regarding Jesus’ ethical and moral teaching4. Jefferson carried around his cut and pasted New Testament with him, revering Jesus as perhaps the greatest moral teacher of all time."

The claims of Jesus Christ force us to choose. As Lewis stated, we cannot put Jesus in the category of being just a great religious leader or good moral teacher. This former skeptic challenges us to make up our own minds about Jesus, stating,

"You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."

Alien Minors Act could boost U.S. military ranks - USATODAY.com: "Felipe Matos would be glad to join the military under the DREAM Act.
Born to a single mother in the slums of Brazil, he came to live with relatives in the U.S. at 14. He graduated from high school, got an associate's degree at Miami Dade College and hopes to get a four-year degree and become a high school teacher. He says he wants to repay the country that gave him the opportunity to succeed.
'I have friends who would have loved to join the military,' says Matos, 24. 'I feel that all of us are just trying to serve and contribute to the only country we know and
love.'"

Compare this young man, who's parents were illegal immigrants, to your average kid with hard working, relatively wealthy, american-born (as well as christian),  pro-life, against univeral health insurance, environmental regualtions,anti-tax, gun rights, against gays in military, proposition 8 proponents, against signature to nuclear non-proliferaion agreements, global warming skeptic  parents...............

How likely are these kids participating in community services,  putting lucrative careers on hold, joining the military to serve their country; grateful instead of hateful.

UnderwaterTimes | Should Females Trust Showy Males? 'Honesty In Males Mostly Depends On How Many Opportunities There Are To Breed'

UnderwaterTimes Should Females Trust Showy Males? 'Honesty In Males Mostly Depends On How Many Opportunities There Are To Breed': "A team of researchers led by Dr Jan Lindström at the University of Glasgow have found that the honesty of the signal can vary dramatically over time, depending on both the condition of the male and the likelihood of him obtaining future matings. The research suggests it may pay females to wait until ‘dishonest’ males have exhausted themselves in producing a flashy signal that they cannot sustain.
Evolutionary biologist, Dr Lindström said: “Honesty in males mostly depends on how many opportunities there are to breed. If males can breed now but the future promises little in terms of further matings, all males should immediately reveal their ‘true colours’ – so that the signals they produce are a reliable indication of their quality. But if males can potentially breed several times over the course of a breeding season, it pays those in best condition to keep some of their strength in reserve.
“In contrast, those males in poorer condition cannot afford to delay seeking a mate, so must signal as hard as they can – with the result that at the start of the breeding season a female cannot reliably judge a male’s quality from his signal. However, as time goes on, the poorer condition males must drop out of the competition, leaving only the better ones and making it easier for a female to pick a high quality mate.”"

A new study from the National Academy of Sciences outlines grim possibilities on Earth for a worst-case scenario solar storm.

Damage to power grids and other communications systems could be catastrophic, the scientists conclude, with effects leading to a potential loss of governmental control of the situation.

The prediction is based in part on a major solar storm in 1859 that caused telegraph wires to short out in the United States and Europe, igniting widespread fires.
